The Forgetful Spuds

I can't believe that June is already here.  We have a very full month ahead of us.  We'll have lots of fun pictures at the end of the month, but until then, I hope you enjoy these pictures from May.

We enrolled Conlin in ice skating lessons as soon as he turned 3.  He was so excited to learn how to skate so that he could play hockey.  This picture was taken before the start of his lesson.  With a smile like that, you'd think the lesson would have been a success.  Unfortunately, he is currently terrified of the ice.  We pulled him out of the class for now and as Conlin says, "We'll try again when I'm bigger and then I can play hockey."
Since Conlin's hair is so easy to cut, I have always done it.  He was really hoping to get his haircut at the fun place we take Anika.  I decided to let him have a turn.  He was so excited to sit on the 4 wheeler and have his hair sprayed blue.
Conlin graduated to Level 1 in swim lessons.  This means that he no longer has to be with Mommy in the pool.  He is feeling like a pretty big boy!
We decided to head to Idaho Falls for Mother's Day weekend.  On Saturday morning, we took the kids to the zoo.  They were excited to see the pink birds.  Here they are practicing their flamingo stance.
Not quite as big as the golden eagle
On our way home from Idaho Falls, we stopped at Shoshone Falls for a picnic.  I didn't remember there being a lake there, so we weren't very prepared.  That didn't stop the kids from taking a swim after lunch!
We took the kids exploring at the Botanical Gardens.  Anika had just learned about the 5 senses, so we went on a hike to use all of our senses.  They wanted to find flowers of every color of the rainbow.  We had warned them that they probably wouldn't find a green flower.  They proved us wrong!  I don't think I've ever seen a green flower until that day.  In this picture, the kids are pretending to be the princess and prince.
Josh and I were excited to see the solar eclipse this year.  I made this nifty cereal box viewer, and we headed to the backyard.  The kids didn't quite understand why Mommy and Daddy wanted to look at a little circle inside a box!
Anika decided that blowing bubbles was more fun than peering into a cereal box.  I really love this picture of her.
I decided we should have a pirate-themed day for fun.  We invited the cousins for the day and had a great time.
I have been wanting to make garden boxes for a few years, and we finally did it.  We made them out of old pallets and old fence boards.  The kids were so excited to choose vegetables and plant them.
On our trip to the zoo last week, we were lucky enough to see volunteers with this little guy.  After her younger cousin did it, Anika decided to be brave and "wear" the bug.
The volunteer suggested that we put the bug on Conlin's hat.  Conlin wasn't sure about that but let us do it anyway.
Josh finally found some time to put together this small swing set for the kids.  They really love the glider.
After watering our new plants, we decided to have a little impromptu fun.  The kids love having me chase them around the yard throwing cups of water at them.  Then, they made sure they were completely soaked by finishing the day running through the sprinklers.
Anika read a book about a little girl that made money selling lemonade at a stand.  She wanted to do the same to raise money for the March for Babies.  We decided she'd have better luck if she did it at a garage sale.  Instead of lemonade, we sold cake pops.  Anika decided it wasn't as much fun as it looked in the book.  She was able to raise almost $17 though!
Anika has been begging to move into a booster seat.  I've been hesitating but somehow Daddy and Anika made it happen this weekend.  She's pretty happy in her big girl seat with flowers!
